This post is not nearly as sexy or controversial as the title would suggest.  I just wanted to share a little perspective on today, that hopefully hits the spot with some people.

My day started horribly.  After being completely unable to sleep last night, I finally conked out around 3:00, and guess what?  Our next-door neighbors started a construction project this morning.  And I mean…CONSTRUCTION!

You know those trucks that beep constantly?  Several of them started arriving at 6:00 a.m.  By 8:00, it looked like a good portion of their roof was being torn off.  I am praying that this is just a new roof, and not an added story to the house.  Haven’t gone outside to see what types of materials have been delivered.  I just can’t bring myself to.  Their house is closer our bedroom window than any other spot in our house, except maybe my office.   Oh, please let this be a 2-day job.

So, I slogged out of bed and made a nice spinach and turkey scramble, then sat down at my computer, where my day took a turn for the better.

In my email was an incredibly lovely note from the FIRST REVIEWER of the audiobook, and let’s just say, I blushed a little.  She’ll be posting her review soon, and I’ll share it here, but this is a huge relief.  This woman, who I have never met, is the first person aside from the audio engineer to listen to the book, so her praise means the world to me.

Had a few more nice emails to deal with, continued the #PepperPictures posts on Twitter (a challenge from a friend to only post pictures of puppies this week), and then found this tweet from @JillBerry102: ‘Put yourself (and your work) out there’ – so much better than never trying. Interesting. @SpeakHappiness http://speakhappiness.wordpress.com/2013/05/30/embarrass-yourself-with-effort-not-fear/ …

Somebody I don’t know tweeted a post from this blog from May!  More importantly, it was a post I had not only forgotten about, but desperately needed to read today, as I continue to struggle with self-promotion.

So my day started low and got a lot higher.  And it will only go up from here.  Don’t forget, tonight in Beverly Hills is the FREE Speak Happiness Workshop.  If you want to attend, email DianeTaub@mac.com for all of the details, asap.  This is going to be a great event, full of friendly women, prizes, surprises and happiness.

Hope to see you there!  Especially if your day is low right now.  What better way is there than Happiness to get high?

  1. I’m glad the day got better. I hear you about the construction: they’ve been digging up the road outside our house for a fortnight. I nearly missed the school pick up yesterday because I got stuck in the traffic lights. I live in a village of about 50 houses!!
Glad the audiobook is going well, too. 🙂

  2. Thanks, Amanda. I am cracking up over getting stuck in traffic in a village of 50 houses. I know it must have been terribly frustrating, but it also sounds like something out of Monty Python.

I talked to the neighbor and they’re just getting a new roof, so I’m putting a guess of 2-3 days at most. Whew! (Although she was intrigued by the idea of adding a second story — yikes!)
