This week, someone online mocked me, only half-jokingly, for focusing my work on happiness when there are so many more pressing concerns in the world.

To that, I give you the words of John Locke:
The necessity of pursuing happiness [is] the foundation of liberty. As therefore the highest perfection of intellectual nature lies in a careful and constant pursuit of true and solid happiness; so the care of ourselves, that we mistake not imaginary for real happiness, is the necessary foundation of our liberty.

Take that!

And hope you all had a HAPPY Independence Day.

  1. I agree with that 100% and i will add to the quote by saying that not only is happiness related to or part of the foundation of liberty but it’s also related to life itself. Try checking out what happens to a water crystal when you speak UNhappy words to it (I know it sounds weird) but check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAvzsjcBtx8 . Health and long life and making positive things happen in this world are completely dependent on happiness and joy. Take that away and you’re messing with the foundation of life itself.
